I had been taking photographs for many years but without any focus. That was until a random day off work I decided to drive up the A9 from Perth to Inverness, it was a whim and I wasn’t expecting anything from the day and in all honesty the decision to take my camera at all was a late one, after all the ‘outdoors’ is for other people, sensible people who wore matching waterproofs….. isn’t it?
What I had that day was I suppose an epiphany, an eye opening moment I have never recovered from and nor do I wish to. On that day the Highlands stopped being classed as ‘The Outdoors’ to ‘My Highlands’, a living, breathing, ever changing part of me that I can’t get enough of and since that day it has been an ever present calming influence in my life.
Now let me clarify it’s not a patriotic thing, it’s a nature thing in that I am completely in awe of the scenery, the mountains, rivers, lochs and the general majesty of it all. Since that day I have pretty much specialised in Highland landscape photography, and have produced 3 eBooks and 2 websites.
The culmination however of 2 years serious photography comes with an exhibition of my photographs in Discovery Point in Dundee staring on June 29th and running until 3rd October totalling 50 pictures to be printed, mounted and framed. The pictures themselves are devoid of any human presence where possible and that alludes to the name ‘Tranquillity’. We all have busy lives nowadays with work, kids, traffic, relationships etc and the Scottish Highlands provide me with a safe haven where even my mobile phone refuses to get a signal on my behalf, something I am eternally grateful for, it is the perfect place to go to, carry all your baggage and leave it there and return home a hopefully better person for the experience.
In the process of organising the exhibition I had decided to produce a book of the photographs and I currently have 2 samples, which brings me to the point of this article. As with everything it seems these days I have a social media presence with a Facebook page for both myself personally and for my photography and with this in mind I would like to give away one of the book samples to a randomly picked name from my Facebook page which I will post anywhere for the person lucky enough to be picked out, which will be randomly done by my 16 year old daughter who has no vested interest in the matter, let’s be honest she has little interest at all like most 16 year olds.
All you have to do to be included in this draw is to like my photography page, nothing more and to do this go to My Page and click like, easy as that. The closing date will be the end of April.
Thank you in advance to those who do this and good luck in the draw.
