The Waterfall Diaries Part 4 In the Shadow of Glencoe
I’m sure if you look for a definition of ‘waterfall’ this next one wouldn’t qualify but to be totally honest…. I don’t care, this one is a beautiful place and right next to a main road as well !!
It’s All About the Location
This, like buying a house is all about ‘location, location, location’ and for me the location is second to none , and I really mean that and when I’m in the area i’m like a “kid in a candy shop” or should that be “bull in a china shop” …anyway, one of those as there is so much to photograph and just gaze at that half a day can be spent just on 1 sq mile.
Now, Getting there ? Well whatever direction you come from it’s going to be AMAZING, further west you could come from Fort William and take the short drive through Ballachulish and straight through Glencoe village or from the East you drive across the magnificently barren Rannoch Moor and past Glen Etive (my favourite place on earth) to reach a turn off signposted ‘ Signal Rock ‘.
The falls themselves are along a single lane road that runs parallel to the main A82 and are therefore one of the easiest to find , especially if coming from the West as the road is a straight line through Glencoe Village and to the last passing place. From the passing place it is literally a 20ft walk to be able to view the falls in full flow (especially if you get it after a few days rainfall) and if you’re careful you can walk down some mossy rocks to within touching distance (or lying distance if you’re like me ) of the water, treat it with respect and the water will do the same as water this fast moving will not spare you should you do anything silly so please stay safe around all these falls.
As you can see from the photograph the falls look both wild and beautiful, and if you visit my tumblr page you will see not only photographs of various Scottish scenes but also a video of these falls in full flow, so please visit this and my website to see many more photo’s … I hope you like them as much as I love taking them
