No visit to Scotland would be complete without spending time in the Isle of Skye and where better to spend it than in Colbost, a small township near to Dunvegan.
Taigh An Tobair (House by the Well) is an ideal holiday home for couples or for families. A tastefully refurbished bungalow, it can sleep up to 5 in three bedrooms (two doubles and one single). Although the house only has one family bathroom it has the quirky advantage of an en-suite WC in one of the double rooms. Nicely refurbished and furnished, it is a cosy, warm, welcoming house.
The small but comfortable living room has a wonderful view across to the islands, as does the kitchen/dining room and the single bedroom.
Nothing could be nicer than a day exploring Skye and then returning to this cosy house for supper and to spend time chatting, watching tv, videos or dvds or reading from the small library of books provided. Although the house is more than adequately heated by the CH system, there is a wood burning stove in the living room for those that prefer it.
A large garden surrounds the property which is nicely secluded, having only two neighbours, but not too remote. A short walk down the road will lead to a small thatched museum on one side of the road and the much acclaimed Three Chimneys Restaurant on the other.
Turn left at the end of the road and on to Neist Point, a fabulous spot for fishing or just walking and where dolphins and whales can be spotted from time to time. Turn right and head towards Dunvegan with its historic castle and gardens and the opportunity to stock up with food in the well stocked mini-mart.
Last summer a family of pine martens visited the garden regularly. There are seals to be seen down on the shore and deer regularly roam the area above the house.
An ideal house from which to explore the wonders of Skye or just to enjoy chilling out in our “home from home”.
